6 years of effort to touch-down the finish line...2023


In the first half of 2017, a design company asked for advice on a project plan they were preparing. A local financial company was considering purchasing the land, and they have asked our opinion on the feasibility of the facility program. The answer was intuitive. It seemed less realistic and lacked commercial viability. They agreed to our program as an alternative, and naturally we got involved in the shopping mall project in Chuncheon.


Chuncheon is a city that has many and varied programs based on cultural contents. Representatively, mime, theater, jazz and others. However, the opinion was given that bringing these things into a commercial space had little effect on the activation of the entire mall in terms of continuity and daily life, and the opinion that a commercial multiplex cinema could be better as an alternative was accepted.

The first challenge was whether a facility such as a multiplex cinema should be designed in advance, and whether it was possible to attract it and sign a lease contract within a short period of time.


In conclusion, the lease negotiations were completed, and the lease contract was concluded in one month. After that, the full-scale work to finalize the MD plan for the entire mall had begun. Of course, market research to understand the city of Chuncheon and grasp the market situation & trend were preceded for such work.Since Chuncheon is not a city with a large population, the positioning of commercial facility was set as the central function of the local community mall. It should encompass the entire region and provide various functions, but avoided a biased composition centered on fashion or specific categories.


Time had passed, construction had progressed, and by the time the building was complete, the time has come to implement our MD plans. Unfortunately, the unprecedented Pandemic also came with the building construction. The sales performance of many retail brands did not perform well, and their store openings were also delayed due to unfavorable circumstances. However, we did not give up with the goal of completing the idea and plan of creating a 'local community mall'.


It seems that the end is now in sight. In the first half of 2023, it seems that we can see the end.
